A question came up for us as to why we practice tracking in swamps.

Answer: Alzheimer's patients just walk out the door of their residence and not realize where they are going. There are many documented cases of them walking into the deep thickets and swamps because they do not realize what they are doing. So in an effort to be response ready we try to train in all the environments we might be called out to search in.

Question:  How did Ares get his name?

Answer: His name is from Greek mythology 

meaning "the god of war".

Question: Did it take Ares a while to learn German?

Answer: It took Ares a few months to learn the German phrashes we use for his training.

Question: Are all german shepherd's so big?

Answer: German Shepherd's usually are considered a large dog. Most Shepherd's can weight anywhere from 65 lb -130 lbs.

They have large boned, long hair Shepherds that are very large. Ares is about an averge sized male at 88 lbs. Ares is a Czechoslovakian Shepherd.

Question: What is the toy Bad Cuz?

Answer: The bad Cuz is a thick rubber squeeky ball toy. 

 Question: Is the word Ares a german word?

Answer: No the name is not German, it was a short powerful name from Greek mythology :)

Question: What food does Ares eat?

Answer: Wellness Large breed Super 5 mix that we purchase from Cad-RE feed in Soldotna.

Question: How much does Ares exercise during the day?

Answer: Everyday Ares goes out for at least 3 - 20 minute sessions where he runs to fetch a toy and plays tug.  Ares also goes on walks and has a busy training schedule.

In the summer Ares is out working or playing most of the day. Ares is always ready to go with me and do what ever we ask :)

Question: Does he eat pizza or human food?

Answer: No, we do not allow Ares to eat human food as he is a working dog. We want him to work for a toy reward. We are able to monitor Ares weight  much easier by not feeding him people food. Our goal is to make sure Ares is helathy and response ready.

Question: How large are Ares feet?

Answer: 7.5 inches wide. 

Question: Is Ares healthy?

Answer: Yes, he has quarterly check ups at the vet. We do everything we can to make sure he is happy and healthy.
